We began our trip by meeting at the new Meijer shopping center at the intersection of Diley Road and Rte. 33. After coordinating drivers and riders we were on our way. The drive to Nelsonville was not long at all and the scenic hills, valleys, and lush greenery all added to our air-conditioned ride. We arrived in plenty of time to get our tickets, grab some snacks and water for all provided by Sherrie and Trish. The gals were pretty stocked up themselves but trail mix and chewy granola bars added to their treats. Small wooden train whistles were also included in the snack bag and we piped our way away. The train ride was surely a throw back to the time when that form of transportation was the way to get around. The clickety-clack and rocking of the car reminded all of us of trips taken in our youth. The open car provided blowing air and no one seemed concerned about their hair as we held on to our red hats. We stopped at a small village; Robin’s Crossing, adapted to the living arrangements from the 1800’s. It was a quick respite from the ride and soon enough we were back at the depot.
We all re-gathered in the parking lot and headed for a quaint diner called the Cup of Café. The decorations and atmosphere were far from formal, but the food and dessert was out of this world. Almost all of us ordered something different from the menu and everyone was surprised at not only the size of our meal but the taste of it too. There wasn’t a sad face in the place. We had one waitress for all of us and she received a hearty round of applause for her calm, cool and collected handling of our orders. Dessert was the special of the day. Along with an array of choices, the carrot cake won everyone over. The size of one piece could feed three people, probably four if we were watching our waistlines. Some of us even took some home. With full bellies and a fun day behind us, we headed home still rocking to the rhythm of the (t)rain. Your Birthday Belle, Trish
