March Madness

Several members have asked
Beth what needs to be done
when you are hosting an event.
My comment would be, "you’re in
charge so plan what you like to
do." The only suggestions that I
would have are:

1. Be sure to find out if a
restaurant will give us separate
checks.

2. Be sure that the restaurant you
choose can seat us all together,
so go check it out before hand.

3. Check with Sandy about a
raffle prize for the evening (she
may have one that someone
donated).

4. Make the reservation and get a
count from our ladies. (I always
make at least one or two extra in
the event that someone wants to
bring a friend or finds out at the
last minute that they can come.

5. Ask if we are allowed to bring
a birthday cake and if playing
Happy Birthday on our kazoos is
okay. Tell The Birthday Baker
Babe how many are coming so
she has enough B-day cake for
everyone (see chart on bottom of
this page).

Optional - Plan a game or mixer
(Beth has lots if you need
ideas).  Provide prizes for the
game.  Make place cards.

Hi Ladies ~
My oh my, did we have a wonderful evening on Thursday.  Dinner and a Show........

Many thanks to our hostesses, Jenene and Josie. Despite the heat, we had the wine flowing,
indulged in food galore and visited with each other in the comfort of Josie's home! Thanks to
everyone who contributed to the scrumptious smorgasbord!!

We had a great turnout of 19 members and 1 returning guest and potential member, Nancy
Collins. While we feasted we enjoyed lots of fellowship and fun. $20 was collected on our
raffle. We had a large selection of prizes for the month donated by Jenene and Sherrie. So we
had lots of winners; Barbara, Jean, Beth, Sandy, Connie, Jane, Alena, Josie, Jackie, Jenene
and Nancy!  Thank you, Sandy, for doing such a great job with the raffle each month!

With Jane awarding her roses each month, we are getting to know each other better, hearing
such great stories about so many different aspects of our lives that we don't always get to
share.  It has really been fun and eye opening, hasn't it?  This month Jane asked for some
best childhood memories about our individual talents, including pictures and did we ever
learn a lot.  Lots of musical talents, several accordion players, lots of dancing gals and a
whole array of other talents as well. This month's roses were awarded to Kathy K., Josie and
Jackie.  Kathy played violin and viola.  Josie sang with a group and performed " Boogie
Woogie Bugle Boy" and had a photo of them! How fun is that?  And Miss Jackie, I'm sure your
story was a good one too but I'm afraid I wasn't within earshot to hear it.  Lots of great stories
were shared.  We have sooooooooooooo many gifted and talented members in our fabulous
group of Gadabouts!

Carolyn Curry is our June birthday girl and Barbara brought delicious cupcakes to celebrate!
The table centerpiece was filled with adorable "Uncle Sam" plant stakes for each of us and
after cleaning up just a bit we were off to the show......

Vaud Villities certainly did a marvelous job of entertaining the crowd. We really enjoyed the
show, Jenene ! Thanks for planning such a wonderful evening.

Until next time ~
Debbie

Greetings, Ladies~

Thursday, July 22nd, 16 Gadabouts enjoyed a lovely evening dining at the Confluence Park in
celebration of
Jane's special 70th birthday. Beth planned a special get-together and
presented Jane with a wonderful scrapbook from all of her Gadabout Sisters of many Red
Hat memories and of her reign as Queen Mum. A true labor of love that will be cherished for
years to come. Thank you,
Beth!  You did an AWESOME JOB! Jane will have to bring it to
another dinner to share with us again, and with those of you who weren't able to join us that
night. To top off the celebration Beth brought the most delicious strawberry dream cake from
"Golden Delight Bakery". Quite sinful and enjoyed by all!   MMmmmmmmmmmm Good.......
Jane awarded her 3 roses for the most memorable birthday stories to
Ginger, Connie and
Josie. And I learned that our dear Beth is a twin!  Did not know that before...

We collected $20 from our raffle  and had a ton of prizes donated by
Jean Jay, Sherrie and
Beth
. We had lots of winners, of course: Abbi, Nancy C., Jill, Debbie R., Linda, Deb K.,
Carolyn and Sandy.
Thanks again Sandy for keeping the raffle alive each month!  This helps
to pay for our website each month as well.

While Shutterbug Jane was very busy, we decided to take a group photo outside on the
terrace with the cityscape as our background. Sooooooo we talked the manager into taking
them for us (with multiple cameras, no less) and as he was trying to get us all squeezed into
view, Lady Sunshine (aka
Sandy) kept hiding behind some of us and he would shout, "I can't
see you"  each time he was focusing the group. What a hoot.  So Lady Sunshine can't hide
that great smile or great hat anymore. I guess we may have to have you sit in front, as we've
got your number now!

Sorry gals, but the PJ Party at Ginger's house on Aug 14th has been canceled as both Ginger
and Abbi will be out of town.  And since we don't usually plan any other event for August, Jane
thought maybe something a little different might be fun. She is arranging for a creative
evening activity of a Paper Making Workshop on August 19th. Her daughter and
granddaughter will be in town to present these workshops. She has sent out some info but
contact her if you have any questions and also if you want to sign up. The cost of the two hour
workshop is $25.00 which is a steal compared to the weekend session prices of $55 and
$90!  Should be lots of fun, although a lot of us don't really dabble in this sort of thing but it's
something different to do other than our regular dinners.  Jane is also providing dinner and
wine for those of you who are interested. More details to come when she gets a feel for how
many might be attending.  September and October activities TBA as soon as plans are
arranged.  Anyone up for a Slumber Party? Any other suggestions are always welcome...

So, Queen Mum, I hope you enjoyed your cake and presents day and here's wishing you
good health and happiness in the coming year.

Until we meet again~
Debbie
